On March 18th 2010, the “Rose des Vents” choir will present the world première of a new arrangement by Stephen Hatfield of the traditional song “Vive la Rose.” In honour of this occasion, the Francophone Community Association is launching a writing contest.
Participants must prepare a prose poem of 350 words maximum which refers either to a rose or to Émile Benoît, who made the song famous in this province. Participants may submit texts in either English or French. There are two age categories: youth (12-17) and adult (18+).
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 12th. See the attached bilingual pdf document for contest details and registration information.
The following prizes will be awarded for the winning texts:
- Adult category – Travel Bug Gift Certification ($50 for the best French text and $25 for the best English text) and a prize pack
- Youth Category – Gift certificate for Fred's Records ($50 for the best French text and $25 for the best English text)
A prose poem uses poetic language (for example, images) but is written in sentences and paragraphs, without line breaks. |
